Preschool, Part Deux

So...we went to preschool today again. This time it was at the Realms of Inquiry school. Will was having a bad morning and so was clingly and sad when we left him, so Jason went out to the car and got Boba Fett (sp?) Will's little 4 inch tall plastic star wars guy. Deal done, Will in school, us gone. So here's what the teacher said when I picked him up.

Teacher: "I have some concerns, I'll have to think about it and call you at the beginning of the week."
ME: "Like what?"
Teacher: "Well, every toy he picks up becomes a toy weapon, and we have a policy, no toy weapons at all. No weapons play."
ME: "Okay..." (READ: I was thinking, Okay Lady let's turn him into a pacifist hippie gay/woman...)
Teacher: "And we have a no-action-figures-policy too."
ME: (Thinking, Oh, so no boba fett.) Oh you do?
Teacher: "Yeah, I think we need to make that more clear, like have it in the packet and on the website, I think I'll talk to the director about that one." (I never received a packet.)
ME: "Probably a good idea."
Teacher: "And he had a lot of interesting questions..."
ME: "Like what?"
Teacher: "Like when is nap time?"

Okay so a school for gifted kids thinks that a 3 year old asking when nap time is is interesting. He asked during story time when at home we take a nap after we read a book...Hmmm...interesting, eh?

By the way, we chose the other preschool. And for further reading just for fun, read this article from the most hippie, pacifist magazine I can sometimes barely stand to read at all, about weapons play.

So, Will starts school next week, when we will have Preschool, Part Trois.

Love you all.

This first three are of Will sharing his frosty with Rowen. See how happy sharing makes everyone?

These are from us playing in the snow today... Rowen had to lay down in the snow with Will, anytime Will does anything, you can be pretty sure Rowen wants to do it too. I still have a happy and beautiful dog. She is 11 official people years, 80 ish in dog years, and pretty darn healthy.

This last one is a picture of Aspen, taken by Will. Good job Will!

Politics are DIRTY

I have to say....I can't wait till this legislative session is over. I am currently the president of Utah Friends of Midwives, a group that advocates for midwives and homebirth and the midwifery model of care in Utah. The midwives model of care can be found here: http://cfmidwifery.org/mmoc/define.aspx

So, anyway, there is a bill proposed here in Utah that would legislate who can and who can't have babies at home, instead of leaving that personal health care decision up to the individual and her caregiver. It is an extremely restrictive bill that would essentially put midwives in Utah out of business.

So, in the midst of dealing with all of that (which I have been somewhat involved in for about 4 years now), I have learned that politicians often don't care any more about an issue than most voters who just "pick one" with their eyes closed. I have learned to FOLLOW the MONEY. I learned that doctors don't like competition, especially the kind that can do it better and cheaper and safer than they can. I have learned that there is a lot of scheming, back door deals, and I'll vote for your bill if you vote for mine. I learned that politicians WILL vote for a bill just to get it out of their way because they are sick of hearing about it, even if they believe and know that it isn't a good bill.

I have also had fun being involved and learning about the process, how a bill becomes law, and all of that. It is a "good" system that we have here in the good ol' USA, if we could just CLEAN IT UP and get all the dirty scheming crap out of the middle!

Preschool, Part ONE

William went to preschool today, to Dancing Moose Montessori School, you can see their website here: www.mydancingmoose.com. HE LOVED IT!!!!! Leading up to this day, some days he'd want to go, somedays right now, and some days he'd not want to go ever. So, he went, loved it, wants to go back, didn't fight with anyone, and the teacher said he was really SMART!!!!

Of course we already knew that. We will try another preschool next week, www.realmsofinquiry.org, and then we'll decide which one he will go to.

It is crazy to think that he is big enough to go to "school". He is SO ready and is having a great time there. Wish us luck!

Oh, and another cute thing, is after I picked up Rowen, (thanks Risa! he was at a friends so we could be attentive if Will didn't want to go to school or whatever), Rowen kept looking for "Will-ya". He kept saying it over and over. Even after waking up from his nap, he constantly said "Will-ya" until we picked him up. So cute to see Rowen missing his big brother!

OH, and thanks for the good weather vibes. We ARE going to NM to see Tina and Noah and are SO excited about it!

William's quote of the year!

So.....My little William said yesterday....

"My penis HATES church!"

No kidding. He has a little yeast infection, don't worry, it's all better now...the little guy didn't get one BECAUSE he isn't circumcised, but because his little body is sensitive to sugar and carbs (read dentist post a while back) and we had run out of acidophilus. Which, by the way, if he eats one every day, he doesn't have any problems with yeast. So, all we have to do to cure it is bulk up on Bio-K and acidophilus, and the homeopathic yeast remedy that good ole' Dave from Dave's Health and Nutrition gave us. (He is FABULOUS!) Nonetheless we were at church and he had to go pee and he was going and was uncomfortable and he declared that the reason for this was that his penis hates church! This has to be the FUNNIEST thing he has ever said.

So, since I know half of you are still thinking, "They just should have circumcised him in the beginning...." I want to tell you, what would you do if your little girl had a yeast infection? Circumcise her? Why is it that the female anatomy was created perfect the way it is, and needs no surgery but instead everyone finds other causes and cures for infections, but the male anatomy is created by God to be flawed and needs surgery to correct any little problem that comes about?

Really I will stop now, so don't get me started....blah blah blah.

send good weather vibes...

For the 28th, 29th, 1st and 2nd...please oh please....I want to go to New Mexico to see my best friend Tina and her little boy Noah, who we haven't seen in 2 years! They just happen to be in NM visiting family, and it's much closer than Hawaii! Please pray or meditate or wish or cross your fingers or hope for good weather in any way you can. I want a vacation!!! And I don't want to drive in a snowstorm!

I am thinking sunny and warm, sunny and warm, sunny and warm!

I don't know how many of you have spring fever, but I definitely do. I check every sunny day for some little green crocuses to pop their little leaves out of the cold ground. It's gotta be getting close. Okay, maybe a few more weeks, but the crocuses are always my first sign that we will all survive and will be wearing sandals soon. Last fall, well early winter, I planted a bunch of different types of bulbs at Jason's house, and some of them are supposed to come up when we still have snow on the ground. I will definitely post some pictures if this ever happens and I will be jumping and dancing (literally!) for the arrival of spring. Even if it is EARLY early spring, or late late winter, I still will be jumping.

Winter right now, the beginning of february always seems like "check". Not check mate but definitely check. It's not OVER, and we won't be stuck in winter FOREVER. But we definitely are stalled, and cornered and deadlocked in this gorgeous white stuff that I have had about enough of for the year. Bring on the flowers! Bring on the leaves on the trees! I'm done freezing!

I have started making ANOTHER list!

Of places I want to travel to. Right now it has about 8 places, but again, comment and do tell me where is your top "to go before you die" destination....

Favorite Books Everyone???

So, I want to make a list, of what books I should read. So, do tell, what is your ONE favorite book, can be fiction or non-fiction, either way. If you just can't seem to narrow it down to one book, tell me more than one! :)

Thanks!

Ahhhh, my baby is sick...

You wonder why it says "Ahhhhh" instead of AAAAAAAGH??? Because, although I wouldn't honestly wish that my baby boys get sick, I have this horrible little thing where I enjoy that they are. Rowen has been puking today, and he puked down my shoulder and back at Costco. But despite all that FUN, he has been sitting still, snuggling with me for hours on end today. I get my snuggle fix with my kids when they are sick, because at any other time, they are climbing the walls!

So, I took a long shower to wash off the puke at Costco incident, while Rowen is napping...and William is supposed to be watching a movie, or playing computer, but he's head butting the shower curtain. After a while, he is quietly talking to himself, doing something at the bathroom sink.

I ask, "Will, what are you doing?"
He says, "I am playing because that is what I want to do."
I ask, "Are you doing no-no things?"
He replies, "I fink so...."

Just so you know, the tone of his "I fink so...." statement wasn't like he wasn't sure if he was doing a no-no, it was high and I-am-and-you-can't-do-anything-because-I-know-you-won't-jump-out-of-the-shower, so try me, type of tone.

He is a silly silly kid!
