I have to say....I can't wait till this legislative session is over. I am currently the president of Utah Friends of Midwives, a group that advocates for midwives and homebirth and the midwifery model of care in Utah. The midwives model of care can be found here: http://cfmidwifery.org/mmoc/define.aspx
So, anyway, there is a bill proposed here in Utah that would legislate who can and who can't have babies at home, instead of leaving that personal health care decision up to the individual and her caregiver. It is an extremely restrictive bill that would essentially put midwives in Utah out of business.
So, in the midst of dealing with all of that (which I have been somewhat involved in for about 4 years now), I have learned that politicians often don't care any more about an issue than most voters who just "pick one" with their eyes closed. I have learned to FOLLOW the MONEY. I learned that doctors don't like competition, especially the kind that can do it better and cheaper and safer than they can. I have learned that there is a lot of scheming, back door deals, and I'll vote for your bill if you vote for mine. I learned that politicians WILL vote for a bill just to get it out of their way because they are sick of hearing about it, even if they believe and know that it isn't a good bill.
I have also had fun being involved and learning about the process, how a bill becomes law, and all of that. It is a "good" system that we have here in the good ol' USA, if we could just CLEAN IT UP and get all the dirty scheming crap out of the middle!

Lets get as many women in pink to the capitol all of next week with the largest showings on Wednesday and Thursday.
They need to see that women care!
